FAQs

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic care is a form of primary healthcare that focusses on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal disorders. We take a hybrid approach to treating conditions involving the bodies muscular, neurological and skeletal systems. We know that there is no “one size fits all” solution for pain. We work to understand your condition, set out clear goals and work alongside you to achieve optimal health.

Is chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic is extremely safe. Chiropractors are required to undergo years of intensive education and practical training. During the "Commission of Inquiry" from 1978-1979, the New Zealand Government found that registered chiropractors were well-equipped to provide safe and effective care. At Bloom, we provide safe, gentle techniques and are trained to perform high quality assessments to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Are you ACC Approved?

Our Chiropractors are all registered ACC providers. You do not need a referral to see us. We can also create a new claim, if it applies. You must have an assessment before we can make any ACC claims. If you have an existing ACC claim please bring the details with you to your appointment as it may be covered.

Do I need a referral?

While we do accept referrals, they are not required. Chiropractors are primary healthcare providers, and referral is not necessary.

How many appointments will I need?

Put simply, it varies. The number of sessions you need will depend on your specific condition and health goals. Rest assured, we do not believe in generalized treatment plans. We always tailor our treatment plans on a case by case basis. Some people may find relief in just a few appointments, while people presenting with chronic conditions may require ongoing care. We assess your progress regularly and adapt to ensure your plan remains optimal for you.

Do I need Xrays?

X-rays are rarely necessary. At Bloom, we prioritize evidence-based care and will only recommend X-rays if your condition warrants it or to rule out any potential concerns.

Can I receive chiropractic care without the clicking/popping noises?

The short answer is yes, absolutely. The "popping" noise commonly associated with chiropractic adjustments is called a "cavitation". It occurs when small gas bubbles in the fluid around your joints are released, a harmless and painless process. Bloom values the needs of our patients, if you prefer something without noise, just let our chiropractor know, and they can accommodate your preference. We have plenty of methods that are just as effective, and are more than happy to help.

Can children get adjusted?

Absolutely. Our youngest patient is currently only 1 day old! We are able to adjust patients of all ages due to the variety of techniques that we offer. We see kids in practice all the time to help with issues like falls, colic, feeding issues and postural problems. There is a common misconception that chiropractic is unsafe for children. The technique that we use doesnt involve any ‘clicking’ or cavitations of the joint, it predominantly consists of low force soft tissue work. If you aren’t sure, please talk to one of our chiropractors and they are happy to discuss your child’s needs.

Can pregnant women get adjusted?

Yes they can, and in fact we encourage it. Chiropractic care is fantastic for pregnancy as its a very safe and effective way to help with common side effects that pregnant women can suffer from. We see a lot of women with issues like lower back pain, pubis soreness, pelvic floor dysfunction etc. We can offer gentle treatment to help realign and support the body throughout pregnancy and post partum.
